Knotty Nuff Wood specializes in every aspect of custom cabinets, closets, and woodworking. We create high-end custom cabinets, custom closets, and other custom woodworking projects with our bare hands. Our artistic approach to design and attention to quality craftsmanship will turn your commercial remodeling or home renovation ideas into improved usability, function, and lasting equity that will be treasured heirlooms for generations to come.

 Although based in Santa Ana, we frequently work with clients throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County, California. We believe in transparent and authentic communication at every phase of the building process - whether near or far. We strive to learn everything about your space and how you intend to use it. We then use that knowledge to create designs that combine aesthetics with functionality - maximizing space without compromising quality or artistry. Each piece of our cabinets is crafted with impeccable attention to detail in our shop. We carefully choose every cut of wood, align the grain, precisely fit the doors, sand the surfaces, and make sure every edge is smoothed to look and feel just right. We have an appreciation of the uniqueness of each project - the results are a combination of durability and quality.

Our History:

 Ryan Aguirre started working with wood at the early age of nine when he had an idea to recreate the once-popular toy "tech decks" and sell them to classmates. He sold out the first day, and it planted the seed for what would become a growing passion. That same year, Ryan's mother started her own business Knotty Nuff Thyme, hand making and painting wooden yard signs and home decor. It was a family affair; his father cut shapes from wood, and Ryan and his brother set up and sold their mother's creations at farmer's markets and craft fairs.

Knotty Nuff Thyme had an excellent run for over a decade until a shift in the economy caused the demand for handmade goods to rapidly decline - while the demand for cheap and more affordable products began to rise.  

As people were losing sight of integrity and quality, Ryan was learning masonry with his dad, who has been in the industry for over 35 years. This hands-on experience provided a solid foundation for him to perfect his skill set to design and produce. This quality time with his dad, building, and creating is what ultimately cultivated his passion for carpentry and woodworking. Ryan has filled his life with the hum of machinery and the sweet smell of sawdust ever since. 

  In June of 2015, after the passing of Ryan's mother, he took this time to continue her woodworking legacy and honor her by creating Knotty Nuff Wood, LLC, in 2016. These days Ryan creates beautiful wood cabinets and furniture that can be found in homes and businesses throughout California. Building on his deep familiarity with the materials and his love of the craft, Ryan is committed to creating timeless, custom cabinetry and furniture of the highest quality with real, everyday purpose. 

Our Wood:

 We carefully select the best and most durable pieces of Maple, Mahogany, White Oak, Walnut, Alder, Zebrawood, and other high-quality wood we can find. We can help you choose the perfect wood for the look and use of your space. 

 Dovetail drawers with under-mount soft-closing slides come standard with our cabinetry. All details, big and small, play a significant role in the design of our custom wood cabinetry.
